Hello everybody, this is Shane Armin row you’re in the passenger seat with me passenger seat radio. It is may 15 2021. And I am out running errands you get a show. That’s the way it works. Welcome to the program. As always, I’d like to take a moment to welcome my one of my co workers new listener to the show. Hello, Luke. Little call out for you there. Thank you for being a brand new, highly devoted listener of which I have many. I believe I had a I believe Brian, I won’t say any last name just in case but I have a new Patreon supporter. Much appreciated. I know the past year sea radios have been a little dry during this work at home Coronavirus scenario. And I appreciate sticking sticking with me and not giving me too much crap about not getting shows out. So I’m on my way to Costco, probably only have about a 15 minute trip here. But I may if I’m so inclined, I may jump back on here and do a show on the way back because that’ll be more like a 25 minute drive. Hey, now, Yeti Welcome. Welcome to the show. Live, we are on spreaker spreaker.com. Go and get the mobile app for Android or iOS. And you could be joining Yeti here live with me. When the show goes live, you’ll get an announcement right on your phone to let you know that the show is going live. And then you can jump in and I’ll talk to you a red lights or you know what? I’m stuck in traffic. So yes, yes, yes. How have things been going? I’ve been dark for a few couple two, three weeks now. And I know you’re all just jonesing to know what’s going on. Certainly I have to have some new nonsense to talk about. And you’d be right. So let me bring my list up here. half a second. Fortunately, my car auto drives for the most part, it makes it a lot easier. All right, so let’s start off with some virtual reality stuff. Virtual Reality stuff. So my embargo against Facebook continues. I am I am so done with Oculus and quest, and Facebook in general. I am I am tired of them, like completely. So I’ve been spending less time in VR, namely, because I can’t have my play space and my studio set up at the same time. So you’ll notice that when I have YouTube videos coming up at some sort of frequency that I don’t get any VR time in, and vice versa, because I have one area and it doubles for both. So right now my studio setup. And that doesn’t really give me much room to play VR. Certainly I can even play beat Sabre, in the space that I have. So although recently though, and this is where I’m leading up to here, a game came out that is fully seated as a fully seated VR experience. And it is called dimeo. And it is essentially a VR version of a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons light game. And I know you’re thinking you’re thinking, Well, shit, that sounds kind of cool. Yeah. And it is. Unfortunately, it’s a little pricey. It’s available, of course on that queue thing. I’m having this I’m going to be like Howard, Howard Stern every time I have to say something regarding, you know, Facebook or quest I’m just gonna go he right. That way, I don’t have to actually say their name and promote their shitty ass products in their, in their methodologies. So anyway, so this dimeo is available on EA. But it’s also available on Steam VR, so that you can play it with PC VR headsets. And it’s all cross play. So you’re not limited to just playing with somebody on the same platform. As a bonus for those of you who are using it on IE, it is room based. And it does not require a Facebook server or Facebook account, sorry, EA account, or any account to this is gonna be really hard to do this. I don’t know how it does it, or was doing it on terrestrial radio. But yeah, so you enter a room number to join up. And so the server itself is not centralized to to the blue, the blue thumbs up company, right? So you don’t have to worry about it. If you’re like me, and you’re using a quest to is fully isolated from Facebook, which you should be doing anyway. If it’s fully isolated from Facebook, you can still play dimeo with your friends on PC VR. And it’s Yeah, so that’s available. It does have in game chat, so you can imagine what it might be like so you and three other players up to four people can play sort of procedurally generated dungeons and it is literally like you’re playing With little Ral Partha painted figurine characters, but they’re all animated, and it’s the aesthetic is really great. And you you There are four different character classes that you can pick from. And essentially, the idea of the game is to clear three levels. And on the third level is a big bad guy, you kill him, Each level has somebody with a key, one of the bad guys has a key, you’ve got to find the guy with the key, you got to kill the guy with the key, then you got to find the door, kill the guys that are around the door at least, and then escape. So you do that twice. And on the third level, you actually go against a boss and all of his little his little minions. And how this works is you it’s all based on a card or a trading card system. Right? Well not trading because that as soon as you actually trade cards, but it’s all done with cards like Magic the Gathering or any of these other tabletop based card games. So you are you are allowed to move twice per turn, you have two different act two action points per turn. And with those action points, you can play a card, which will do something like either cast a healing spell or cast some other spell or use your primary weapon, or whatever. Or you can use to actually move around the dungeon within a small fixed area. And it looks great. And because it’s VR, you can put the camera anywhere you want to watch. So you can literally sit by the table side or you can zoom your ass all the way up to the pretty much to the square that your your piece is sitting on and everywhere in between. So you can literally pick the table sort of so to speak, you move around, but it feels more like you’re picking the table up and moving the table in zooming it in pulling it out, rotating it left rotating it right tilting it, you do, you can completely move the table and the view while you’re playing. To get the best possible vantage point. As you’re moving around the dungeon, there are things you can pick up like gold, there’s treasure chest healing pools, there are explosive type barrels, they’re there. They’re like, they’re like globes that have fire ice, you use those to help you defeat monsters. Everything works with line of sight. So you can only see the part of the dungeon that your characters can actually physically see based on where they’re at. So you can you can have these dungeon levels that are almost completely open. But because of the walls, and the turns in the corridors and things like that, you can only see a certain amount. So you never really have a full assessment of where all the monsters are, or what sort of an effort it was going to take. It’s going to take to, to to to to get safe, and the enemies will come through doors, they will come from outside areas they seem to call each other. So you’re almost always on the defensive all the time. And when you’re playing with a party, you can play it alone, you can play it alone, and there is some value so it’s playable alone. It’s not like one of those games where where you play it alone, but they fill it with three bots because it’s really a four player game, but you’re not allowed to play it. So you can play with any number of players which is great. So it is a game you can play by yourself. You guys know me, I’m fine playing multiplayer games with my close friends. I don’t like randos I don’t like surprises. And in a game where every single person’s ability and their actions can make or save make or break the entire game the last person you want to play with a randos so I’ve played with my son I’ve played with close friend Chad, we’ve played together as a threesome. Brian and I have played together as a duo. And I’ve played alone and and honestly even if you don’t have anybody to play with, it’s still fun to play by yourself. To some extent Listen, there it helps to have the different classes, right. Some classes are ranged classes, some are melee classes, some are magical classes. So you want a good spread. The game feels more balanced that way but you can go at it alone and you can have fun with it. And so it’s it’s turn based so ever all the players get to move then the monsters move the players move the monsters move. So there is a there is a turn based thing you’re not under pressure to constantly. constantly be moving all the time. Get ready to turn here sorry. So you have some time to think and strategize and I’d say a good a good half the game are your you and your your fellow players talking about the strategy you want to employ. Which guy Are we going to target? Well that guy’s getting that guy’s got three turns until he releases something terrible. Let’s focus our attention on him, that sort of thing. And like I said, it’s great visually speaking, it’s a real treat. I’m going to tell you right now, and this is not, this has nothing to do with my, my morbid dislike of Facebook. But the the quest version while totally serviceable, the truth of the matter is, on PC VR, there’s a lot of there’s a lot better definition, right? If you’re, if you’re playing from the 30,000 foot view, on quest, or on PC, it looks very similar. But when you start zooming in, when you start getting closer, the game starts taking on a new life when you have a nice, powerful PC to drive it. Now, the problem with the game, of course, is that it is $30. And there is one, quote module to play. And while the levels are procedurally generated, it’s still the same end game, it’s still it’s still the same overall Game Over and over again, just with the procedural generation. And it’s got the same boss at the end. So a lot of people’s biggest complaints, and it’s completely legit, is that the game? The game doesn’t offer enough content for the price that they’re asking. So yeah, it’s true. Listen, 20 bucks, I would say push the button right, right now, if you are someone that you’re like, dude, I have been dreaming my entire life for a VR based Dungeons and Dragons game that, you know, card card, tabletop type game, then yeah, listen, you’re gonna pay the 30 bucks, you’re going to like it. You’re going to tell your friends and you’re going to play if, if you’re if you’re on the fence a little bit, I would wait for a price drop or I would wait until the the the next DLC pack drops, which will be a second module, then you’ll get two modules for 30 bucks. Alright, listen, I’m at Costco, I need to go and get this done. I will try to get back on the show on the way back home. And just in case I don’t I’ll sign off. I know it’s a short show. I’ve got plenty of other topics to talk about. This is Shane R., Monroe pastizzi radio. We’ll see you next time. Take care, everybody.
